“An unexamined life is not worth living”. -Socrates
This Totem is a tribute to one of history's most influential philosophers, Socrates. When we think of ancient Greece, we immediately think of Athens, and the people who built many of the foundational aspects of our world today. Known as the ‘Big Three” Aristotle, Plato and Socrates who were very influential in starting this movement and bringing it to the rest of the world. Socrates was the teacher pf Plato, who then became the mentor of Aristotle.
Socrates did not write his philosophical texts, all knowledge related to him is entirely dependent on the writings of other people of the time period. Works by Plato, Aristotle and other students contain all of the knowledge known about this enigmatic figure. His largest contribution to philosophy is the Socratic method, which is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals. This method is performed by asking question after question with the purpose of seeking to expose contradictions in one’s thoughts, guiding them to arrive at a solid conclusion. Let this Totem serve as a reminder to question everything, and always remember. To find yourself, you must think for yourself.
